Amazon is planning to launch a new Kindle Fire by end of this year and drop the price of the existing tablet to $149. It may be arriving in time for the 2012 holiday shopping rush too, which is great for gift givers. Looks like a smart move from Amazon to compete with Google, Apple, Barnes & Noble or Microsoft B&N Nook deal.
The existing Kindle Fire, with a resolution of 1024 by 600, will also be present for entry-level tablet buyers. DigiTimes report says, Amazon will release a new 7-inch Kindle Fire with 1280-by-800 screen resolution.
If Amazon is going down this road, there will be plenty of additional tweaks to the new Kindle Fire. Adding 200 pixels each way wouldn’t be enough to convince most users to spend the extra $50, but other bumps like a faster chip — or one with more cores — would certainly help. A front-facing camera might be a nice addition, too.
Amazon will then sell the two models, keeping the lower-res original Kindle at $149 and offering it beside the new 7-incher and the also rumored 10-inch tablet coming either late this year or early next year.
