ASUS officially unveiled the Fonepad, a 7-inch tablet with built-in phone functionality and PadFone infinity(phone that turns into a tablet) at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.
The FonePad has a 7-inch display, which packs in 1280x800 pixels, making this the same size and resolution as the Nexus 7, Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, also has 3G connectivity and full telephony support, just like on a smartphone. And powered by the new Intel Atom Z2420 processor, along with 1GB of RAM, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, 8/16GB of storage (expandable via SD memory cards) and an HSPA+ radio. The 4,270mAh battery is said to get up to nine hours of runtime. It lacks a rear camera(the Asian version will sport a 3MP rear camera, though), but finds space for a 1.2-megapixel front-facing snapper, which should come in handy for video calling.
There's no word on US availability for the FonePad, but it should be available in Asia for $249 in March and in Europe for €219 in April.ASUS has reportedly started taking pre-orders in Taiwan for the Fonepad.
The PadFone Inifnity starts with a 5-inch smartphone, sporting a full HD 1920×1080 display at 441 PPI, a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC, and 2GB of RAM. It's also got either 32 or 64GB of storage, a 13MP rear camera, a 2MP front camera, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, and LTE support, all packed into a five ounce, 0.35" thick package, as well as a 10.1-inch tablet dock that can be used to control and access the content previously on the phone.
ASUS said the Padfone Infinity will launch in April for €999 ($1292.41 USD).
