Gemini JoyTab Android Tablet

Most of us think about high-end tablets like the new iPad , Samung Galaxy and the ASUS Transformer Prime, but there is an increasing number of cheaper tablets that manage to pack in decent specs for an affordable price. Gemini Devices is an another company hoping to entice you with its wares, such as the JoyTAB Tablet series. There’s 7-, 8-, and 9.7-inch versions of the tablet, and all are running Ice Cream Sandwich

JoyTab specs are not cutting edge but they sure are enough to ensure good and satisfactory performance. The 7-inch variant of JoyTab devices has 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processing unit which is paired with 512 MB of random access memory (RAM). The good thing is it also comes with a decent Mali-400 graphics processing unit (GPU). These specs are good enough for a device offered for £129.99 or around $208 US. The 7-inch variant only gets 4 GB of storage space and a considerably lower resolution at 800 x 400 pixels.

Both the 7 inches and 8 inches tablets have almost the same specs when it comes to the CPU, GPU and RAM. Perhaps, the only difference lies in the built-in memory. The 8-inch tablet has 8 GB of storage space. Also, I forgot to mention that they also have microSD slots capable of supporting up to 32 GB of removable storage. Also, the price is a bit higher at £149.99 or around $240 which is also justifiable with these specs. The resolution stays at 800 x 400 pixels simply because there is just an inch difference in diagonal measurement.

Gemini JoyTab 9.7

Among these devices, the 9.7-inch variant is the most special not just because it is a bit bigger than its two siblings but because Gemini Devices gave it something different as far as hardware is concerned. It has Rockchip RK2918 chipset processor clocked at 1 GHz still but this one offers better performance than the first two I’ve mentioned here. Its RAM has been bumped into 1 GB and 16 GB of built-in storage plus a microSD slot. It has a considerably higher resolution at 1024 x 768 pixels and features IPS display. JoyTab 9.7″ tablet also support HDMI v1.4 via microHDMI output with a battery life that could reach up to 6 to 7 hours of continuous usage. Anyway, this variant is marketed for £199.99 or around $240.

In Summary All these tablets are featured with

  • Capacitive Multi-Touch Screen.

  • Responsive Multi Core Processor.

  • 8GB Storage, Upgradeable to 32GB.

  • Over 360,000 Apps.

  • Connect and share with Wi-Fi, HDMI 1.4 & USB.

  1. Whilst all the above is true of these tablets., after problems with mine, the Gemini after-service is poor. I called last Monday and was advised to email my receipt and the report the fault again which I did. Was further advised that I would receive an email within 3 or 4 hours advising the next steps in returning the product and after waiting for 4 days, I tried to call them but having been left on hold for over 30 minutes, I have fired off a further email. Not a good way to treat customers.
